My work continues at about two inches per hour on my painting. The rug has proven to be exactly as tedious as I thought it would be. What you see on the far side of the rug and the floor is nowhere near being finished, but it was one of those painting days where I felt like skipping around and using a variety of colors instead of just maroon and green. So I decided to tackle the stuff near the stairs.
I brought a lot of things with me when I moved into what I used to refer to as Jeff's house, and for a while we stored some of them behind the staircase. As I painted a few of those items today, I realized that what this painting is really about is me infiltrating Jeff's world. Ever since I painted Jeff's face, I've been troubled by his slightly melancholy expression. But now I think it kind of works because I am smiling--I was waiting for him at the end of a tragic year, and I have made it my mission to pull him out of that sadness and make him happy again. And I've done that. The way I'm looking over his shoulder reminds me of one of my favorite U2 videos.
Once I finish the carpet, I'll create a small shadow around Bun that will anchor her a bit more.
Also today: a start on Jeff's sun-dappled shorts and a small wicker magazine bin.
Bun looks so soft and just right. That's my favorite part (so far).

i don't think he looks melancholy as much as it looks like he's concentrating.
i totally get the 'stay' vibe too. cool!

Im a subscriber to your sisters channel and saw your blog in a reference she made from twitter! You are so talented! I'm a college student who fell in love with watercolors during high school art class. I hadn't painted since high school, and seeing this artwork reminded me how much I miss painting. Your work is beautiful, keep it up!
