I started painting this large watercolor last fall, and it's been driving me crazy ever since. I like to work in big, uninterrupted blocks of time, one day after another, and beyond some stolen moments during the school year, summer is really the only time I can do it. I plan to finish it this month, along with some other paintings. I love painting details, but dealing with the carpet and dozens of books will be extremely challenging. Here are some details of what I have so far.
My reference photo for this is actually five pictures photoshopped together.
I took a photo of Jeff reading in the chair, he took one of me pretending to look over his shoulder, and then we took photos of each of our cats, trying to capture them in typical poses. The light in our library in the morning is gorgeous, so we had to hurry before it shifted (and before Jeff had to go to work).
Bun was recovering from some major health problems at the time, and as a result her sweet little belly was shaved for surgery. I'm going to paint her normally plush fur back.
Quixote is looking elegant and inquisitive as usual. His fur is so blindingly white that it can sometimes appear light blue. Note the carpet insanity that awaits me.
Extreme close-up of Hypatia. In the actual painting, she's about an inch and a half tall. She's such a little beauty.
I plan to take more in-progress photos of the painting as I complete it. I can't wait to see it in a frame and on our wall.
