I'm sorry for your loss! But man, how lucky to have grandparents for such a long time. (Mine were all gone before I turned 20.)

My great aunt Gertrude was a painter but she still noticed how weird I was and commented on it, albeit nicely.

Thanks, Caroline. :) Ma was my last surviving grandparent, but I was fortunate in that all of them lived close to me.

Funny, I posted a response to this when you put it up, but it doesn't seem to have saved. I commented that my grandmother said exactly the same thing as yours - "now why would she want to go there?" - every time I went abroad. The items in her house, however, were not nearly as intriguing as the ones you describe.
